Former Kano State Governor and Senator, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has vowed to remain in active politics for the rest of his life, saying his mission to promote credible leadership in Nigeria is a lifelong commitment.
Shekarau made the declaration during an interactive session with journalists in Kano as part of activities marking his 70th birthday.

“I will remain within the political arena for life to continue to ensure credible leadership in the country. So, the question of leaving politics does not even arise,”
He expressed gratitude to God for attaining the age of 70, describing it as a remarkable milestone, and said he has no regrets in life.
“I don’t have any regrets because regret comes only when one doesn’t appreciate what God has given. By Allah’s grace, I am 70 years today, and reaching this age is a great blessing. If one doesn’t appreciate what God has done, when will one appreciate Him?”
The former Minister of Education used the occasion to appreciate friends, colleagues, political associates, and supporters who had contributed to his life journey.

“As humans, we are bound to offend one another. I ask all those who feel I have wronged them to forgive me, and I have also forgiven everyone who may have offended me. I am starting on a new slate,”.
Speaking on national issues, Shekarau commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for some of its efforts but urged the Federal Government to intensify actions in tackling insecurity and reviving the economy.
“No nation is free from crime, but security agencies must work harder to protect lives and property.
Also, whatever economic policy the government adopts, it must ensure people can afford food. When people are hungry, nothing else matters not education, not politics,”.
Shekarau, who governed Kano State between 2003 and 2011, emphasized his commitment to continue contributing to Nigeria’s political development and mentoring the younger generation for better leadership.
