The Kano State House of Assembly (KNHA) has adopted a motion calling on the state government to upgrade the Sabon Birni health post in Fagge Local Government Area to a comprehensive hospital.
The resolution followed a motion moved by the member representing Fagge Constituency, Alhaji Tukur Muhammad Fagge, during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Alhaji Jibril Isma’il Falgore.

Fagge explained that the upgrade became necessary due to the health challenges faced by residents, especially women, as the facility ceases operation after 6 p.m. He lamented that the situation has led to loss of pregnancies and severe complications among expectant mothers.
According to him, the facility serves a large population strategically located between Fagge and Ungogo LGAs, catering to over 10,000 women, children, and patients. He emphasized that many residents, particularly from remote areas, are forced to travel long distances at night to access medical care.

After careful deliberations, the House unanimously adopted the motion and called on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to prioritize the upgrade of the health post as a matter of urgent public importance.
Similarly, the Assembly adopted another motion urging the state government to expedite the administrative upgrade of Gani Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) to a cottage hospital in Sumaila LGA.
The motion’s sponsor Alhaji Hamza Zubairu Massu noted that Gani town serves as a major link to Massu, Sitti, and Gediya communities about 36 kilometers away and even connects to parts of Bauchi State. He stressed that residents currently lack access to secondary healthcare except in Sumaila town.
Supporting the motion, the member representing Takai Constituency, Dr. Musa Ali Kachako, described effective healthcare service delivery as a fundamental duty of government. He added that upgrading the facilities would bridge critical healthcare gaps in Sumaila and the state at large.
The House also adopted additional motions calling for the construction of dual carriageways, bridges, and road projects across several local government areas.
