The Kebbi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega, has secured accreditation for seven professional programmes, marking a significant development in the institution’s academic standing.

The Provost of the College, Alhaji Hussaini Aliyu, disclosed this when the Kebbi State Media Team, led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, visited the institution on Wednesday.
He said the college had overcome several challenges in recent years, particularly in securing accreditation for its programmes, with financial support from the Kebbi State Government facilitating the accreditation exercise.
According to the Provost, the accredited programmes include Community Health, Health Education and Promotion, Health Information Management, Public Health, Environmental Health Technology and Medical Laboratory Science Technology, among other health-related programmes.
He said the accreditation had created new opportunities for students while strengthening the institution’s standing within Nigeria’s technical and health education sector.
Alhaji Hussaini also highlighted developments in infrastructure as well as staff and students’ welfare.
He listed the renovation of male and female students’ hostels, construction of a new entrance gate and perimeter fence, provision of six functional boreholes, including three solar-powered facilities, renovation of the ICT Centre and provision of a new 36-seater bus among the improvements recorded by the college.

The Chairman of the Governing Council, Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji Bunza, described the institution as an important source of health manpower for Kebbi State, noting that its graduates serve in primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare facilities across the state.
He said the college, established in the 1970s, had not previously secured accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for its programmes.
Bunza said the recent accreditation had also enabled the institution to admit students through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) process.
He explained that all admissions into the accredited National Diploma programmes would henceforth be conducted through JAMB, describing the development as a major milestone for the college and its students.
The Chairman of the Accreditation Committee of the Governing Council, Alhaji Aliyu Ladan, said the committee achieved what he described as a “100 per cent success” in the accreditation exercise.
He said the development followed a directive by Governor Nasir Idris for the institution to acquire nationally recognised foundational programmes.
Ladan added that the college had been listed on the JAMB e-Facility for National Diploma programmes and had commenced admissions.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, who led the Governor’s media team to the institution, said the visit was aimed at assessing developments recorded under the administration of Governor Nasir Idris.
He commended the management and Governing Council of the college for their efforts and assured them that the state’s media team would continue to communicate the administration’s programmes and developments to the public.
