Bayero University, Kano (BUK) began their quest for gold in grand style at the ongoing 27th Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) holding at the University of Jos, with a commanding 55–11 victory over Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBB) in their opening female basketball match on Monday, November 10, 2025.
The star of the game was Princess Zaki, who delivered a scintillating performance by scoring 38 of BUK’s 55 points, leaving the crowd in awe of her dominance on the court. Supporting her impressive display were the captain fantastic, Theresa David, Cherry, Fatima, and Eunice, whose teamwork and tactical brilliance ensured BUK maintained total control from start to finish.
The game drew loud cheers and applause from spectators and fellow universities, with many describing the performance as one of the most electrifying displays of the tournament so far.
Addressing the players after the emphatic win, BUK’s Director of Sports, Professor Rabiu Mohammed, lauded the team for their outstanding display and urged them to sustain their momentum all the way to the gold medal. He assured them that the university would duly recognize and reward their achievements.
The team’s head coach, Sunusi Shuaibu (Badway), expressed delight over the dominant performance, describing it as the result of hard work, discipline, and proper preparation. He noted that the victory has further boosted the team’s morale ahead of their next encounter against Niger Delta University (NDU).
In her post-match remarks, Princess Zaki, who was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the game, attributed her success to teamwork and collective effort. “We are determined to keep pushing until we win the gold medal for BUK. Today’s victory is just the beginning,” she said confidently.
With spirits running high and confidence soaring, the BUK Female Basketball Team has sent a strong message to all contenders — they are in Jos not just to compete, but to dominate.
