Bayero University, Kano’s Chess Team has made an impressive start at the ongoing 27th Nigeria University Games (NUGA) hosted by the University of Jos.
The Chess event,features twelve (12) universities competing in the male category. The tournament is being played in the classical format over seven rounds, with medals to be awarded based on the total points accumulated by individual players and teams.

Each institution is permitted to field four players per round, with two reserves available for substitution as the competition progresses. This arrangement allows all six team members to participate and vie for both individual and team honors.
In the opening round on November 9, Bayero University, Kano faced a tough challenge against the University of Ibadan, narrowly losing 2.5 – 1.5.
However, the team bounced back in Round 2 on November 10, securing a convincing 3 – 1 victory over Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
As of Round 3, Bayero University, Kano is currently facing Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, with the match still in progress.

According to the Chief Coach, Fatihu Auwal Abubakar, the BUK team remains optimistic about maintaining its strong momentum as the tournament advances through the remaining rounds.
