The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kano Command has joined other African countries and the global community to mark the 2025 International Road Crash Africa Conference and the African Road Safety Day/World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Idris Mohammed Lawal, said the commemoration held under the theme Gathering Africa and the World for Crash Victims serves as an opportunity to honour those who died or sustained injuries in road crashes, as well as to support their families.

He said the annual event also reinforces the Corps’ commitment to enhanced enforcement, stronger advocacy, and sustained public sensitisation aimed at promoting safer road use across Kano State and Nigeria.

According to the statement, the week-long activities began on Friday with a special Juma’at prayer at Skyline University, Zaria Road, Kano.
The Sector Commander, represented by Deputy Corps Commander A.N. Gago, joined the congregation as the Chief Imam, Sheikh Umar, offered prayers for the repose of the souls of crash victims and divine protection for all road users.

On Saturday, members of the Road Safety Officers’ Wives Association (ROSOWA) are scheduled to visit road traffic crash victims at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital to provide moral support and comfort.
A Thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday at ECWA Church, Dakata Quarters in Nasarawa Local Government Area, to offer prayers for survivors and families affected by road crashes.
The activities will climax on Wednesday with a roadshow and public sensitisation campaign across Kano metropolis, where flyers will be distributed to motorists and pedestrians to encourage safer driving habits.
Lawal reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to reducing preventable deaths and injuries through effective enforcement, public education, community engagement and stronger stakeholder partnerships. He appealed to motorists and other road users to honour the memory of crash victims by obeying traffic regulations and embracing a responsible road-use culture.
