Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced plans for a comprehensive rehabilitation of the Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies (KASCEPS) to upgrade its infrastructure and improve academic standards.
The Governor disclosed this during an unscheduled visit to the institution on Thursday, accompanied by his Deputy, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, and other top government officials.
According to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the visit was aimed at conducting an on-the-spot assessment of the college’s condition to guide urgent interventions and restore the dignity of the institution.
Governor Yusuf said the rehabilitation would cover a total overhaul of classrooms, the auditorium, laboratories, and other essential facilities.
He added that the government is also considering expanding the college to include hostel accommodation for boarding students.
Addressing the students, he urged them to remain disciplined, focused, and committed to their studies, noting that the state’s foreign and local scholarship schemes offer significant academic opportunities.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Higher Education, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, revealed that the State Executive Council has recently approved N270 million for the completion and furnishing of the college’s e-library.
During the visit, the Governor and his entourage were taken around the institution by the Provost, Dr. Auwal Muhammad Faruk, to identify critical areas requiring immediate government intervention.
