The Kano State Government has recorded another significant milestone with the successful development of the State Multi-Hazard and Multi-Sectoral Risk Communication and Community Engagement Plan, spearheaded by the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC).
The workshop, held in collaboration with the FCDO–Lafiya Programme, marks a major step forward in the state’s efforts to strengthen public health security, improve risk communication systems, and enhance coordinated emergency response across multiple sectors.

Participants drawn from the Ministry of Health, the State Primary Health Care Management Board (SPHCMB), various media organizations, and key development partners worked jointly to design frameworks and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure timely, transparent, and unified communication during disease outbreaks and other public health emergencies.
The initiative is widely seen as a reflection of the commitment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the leadership of the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, toward strengthening a resilient and responsive health system in Kano State.

Under the leadership of the Director General of KNCDC, Professor Muhammad Adamu Abbas, the Centre continues to drive inter-sectoral collaboration, innovation, and community engagement, positioning Kano as a model for epidemic preparedness and risk communication in Nigeria.
As implementation begins, stakeholders including media practitioners, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community based organizations are expected to play crucial roles in building public trust, promoting accurate information, and deepening community participation in health initiatives.
The achievement reflects the administrative commitment of the current government and the continued efforts of KNCDC to safeguard the health and wellbeing of Kano residents.
