An overhead water tank containing thousands of litres of water has exploded in Shirinya Quarters, Malam Madori Local Government Area of Jigawa State, injuring several families.
The incident, which occurred around midnight on Thursday near the railway line, was confirmed in a statement by Musa Muhammad, the Information Officer for Malam Madori and Kaugama LGAs.

According to the statement, the force of the explosion caused injuries to residents living close to the water station. The injured are currently receiving treatment at the Malam Madori General Hospital. No fatalities have been reported.
The tank, which had long served as a major source of water for Shirinya Quarters and surrounding communities, had reportedly been in need of repairs for some time.
A community member, who requested anonymity, disclosed that residents had formed a committee to collect funds for the tank’s maintenance.

In response to the incident, the Chairman of Malam Madori Local Government, Hon. Salisu Sani Garungabas, expressed sympathy for the affected families and promised the council’s full support towards their recovery. He also assured residents that urgent steps would be taken to restore the water supply and prevent a recurrence.
