Kano State boys and girls have arrived in Abuja ahead of the Inter-Secondary Schools Basketball and Volleyball Tournament.
The tournament, supported by the Adolescent Girls Initiatives for Leadership and Empowerment (AGILE), kicks off today, Sunday, in the Federal Capital Territory.
In addition to the sporting events, organizers have lined up educational activities such as debates, spelling bees, painting competitions, and more to engage the students.
Speaking to journalists, the leader of the Kano delegation and Assistant Director in the Kano State Ministry of Education, Malam Musa Umar Minjibir, urged the students to be exemplary ambassadors during their stay in Abuja.
He also praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the State Commissioner of Education, Gwani Ali Haruna Makoda, for their unwavering support. Minjibir expressed confidence that the Kano representatives will make the state proud by the end of the championship.
In the opening volleyball match for boys, Kano will face Borno, followed by a match against Katsina. Borno and Katsina will also square off in a later game.
In the girls’ basketball category, Kano will take on Ekiti, while Kaduna faces Katsina at the same venue.
Meanwhile, in the boys’ basketball competition, Kano is set to clash with Plateau, with Ekiti later playing another fixture against the same Plateau team.
