President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved key appointments into the leadership of two newly established federal universities of education, naming Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Kaduna State.
Prof. Bunkure, a distinguished scholar in science education, is currently the Vice Chancellor of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano.
President Tinubu also appointed Engineer Abdurrazaq Abubakar Nakore as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano.

while Prof. Abdullahi Tukur Kodage as Vice Chancellor of the Kano-based institution.
Engr. Nakore, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, previously served as Executive Secretary of the Rural Electricity Board in Jigawa State. Prof. Kodage, on the other hand, is an experienced academic administrator with a track record in educational leadership.
The two institutions were among the four Colleges of Education upgraded to full-fledged universities between 2022 and 2023, as part of efforts to expand access to teacher education and strengthen Nigeria’s education system.

In line with the laws establishing the institutions, the Pro-Chancellor is to serve a four-year term, while the Vice Chancellors will hold office for five years.
With these appointments, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to repositioning Nigeria’s education sector through the appointment of seasoned professionals into leadership positions.
