The administration of Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has reaffirmed its commitment to resolving persistent land disputes across Kano State, pledging to implement lasting solutions for peace and development.
This assurance was given by the Commissioner for Local and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Tajo Othman, during a two-day seminar on “Effective Dispute Management as a Veritable Tool for Peace and Sustainable Development in Kano,”.
Kano Govt Unveils Bold Action Plan to Resolve Land Disputes
Othman noted that land disputes remain one of the most pressing challenges in the state, often leading to conflicts, displacement, and economic losses.
He stressed the importance of equipping local government officials with the necessary skills to manage and resolve disputes fairly and transparently.
“Land disputes have been a recurring challenge in our state. However, we now have the opportunity to change this narrative by equipping ourselves with knowledge and skills to resolve them effectively,”.
In her welcome remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Fatima Adamu Barde, commended Governor Yusuf for consistently approving training programmes for local government officials, noting that such capacity-building efforts have improved governance at the grassroots.
Similarly, the Vice Chairperson of ALGON Kano South and Chairman of Ajingi Local Government, Hon. Dr. Abdulhadi Zubairu Chula, lauded the state government for organising the seminar.
He urged participants to fully apply the skills acquired to address land disputes and build a more peaceful and prosperous society.

The Makaman Kano and District Head of Dawakin Tofa, who represented the Kano Emirate Council, assured of traditional institutions’ support for government initiatives, particularly in enforcing compliance with land-related laws and sustaining peaceful coexistence.
In his closing remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government Matters, Alhaji Garba Umar Durbinde, thanked participants and facilitators, urging them to put the lessons learned into practice for the benefit of the state.
The seminar was organised by the Ministry for Local Government in collaboration with BSI Dynamic Enterprises.
Resource persons facilitated the sessions aimed at strengthening dispute resolution mechanisms in all 44 LGAs.
The workshop brought together 44 local government chairmen, house leaders’ secretaries, DPMs, CPOs, land officers, 56 district heads from Kano Emirate, and other stakeholders.
