Bayero University Kano (BUK) has concluded all necessary preparations aimed at excelling in the forthcoming Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) preliminary stages, scheduled to hold from October 27th to 31st in Wudil, Kano State.
The University’s Director of Sports, Professor Rabiu Muhammad, popularly known as Chanhu, disclosed this during the BUK Alumni Basketball Game and Presentation Ceremony organized by the Faraj Charity Foundation at the Indoor Sports Hall, Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata.

Professor Muhammad explained that the university’s athletes have been undergoing intensive training sessions to ensure they achieve outstanding results in the games.
He added that BUK is expected to participate in 14 sporting events, expressing confidence that with the players’ commitment and management’s support, the university will record remarkable success.
“With the encouragement and moral support of our Vice Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, the sky will be our limit,” he stated.

Professor Muhammad also urged the athletes to reciprocate the university management’s support by giving their best performance during both the preliminary and the main NUGA competition, scheduled to hold in Jos, Plateau State, from November 16th to 30th, 2025.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the NUGA Technical Committee and Chairman of the BUK Sports Committee, Professor Musa Garba Yakasai (A.A.), called on members of the university’s alumni to support the institution’s ongoing efforts in promoting sports development.
He emphasized that sports have become a lucrative global venture, urging students to harness their potential for personal and professional growth.
In his remarks, the Founder of Faraj Charity Foundation, Faruk Raji, said the partnership with BUK was part of his organization’s contribution to sports development and youth empowerment.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of jerseys to both the male and female university teams, as well as a special recognition award to Malam Tijjani, a veteran basketball star from the 1980s.
