The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismissed as false a viral message circulating on social media alleging a mass influx of Boko Haram fighters into parts of Southern and North-Central Nigeria, including Lagos, Ilorin, and Rivers State.
The message also claimed that key holders embedded with tracking devices were being distributed at public places.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command described the claims as fake, misleading, and intended to incite fear and panic. It stressed that no security report from any intelligence agency supports the allegations.

“ There is no intelligence from any security agency to support these claims. The content is purely fabricated to cause fear, panic, and unnecessary tension among members of the public,” the statement read in part.
The Police noted that the clarification became necessary due to Akwa Ibom’s proximity to some of the states mentioned in the viral alert.
Residents have been advised to remain calm and continue their lawful activities, while refraining from sharing unverified messages online or offline.
Meanwhile, the Command assured that adequate security architecture is in place across the state, including patrols, surveillance units, tactical teams, and community policing structures.
