As preparations intensify for the forthcoming Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) preliminaries, the Bayero University, Kano (BUK) Female Handball Team has signaled its readiness with an emphatic 15–5 victory over Government Girls Arabic Secondary School (GGASS), Tudun Murtala, in a friendly encounter.
The match, played at the Old Campus Sports Complex, served as a warm-up fixture ahead of the NUGA preliminary games scheduled to hold from October 27 to 31, 2025, at the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil.
The first half was a close contest, with GGASS putting up a spirited fight through key players Fatima Yusuf and Harira, while goalkeeper Nusaiba Yunus Adam made several crucial saves to keep her team within reach. The half ended 5–4 in favour of BUK.
However, the second half saw the university side take full control of the game. Star player Achujbiat from the Faculty of Communication led a relentless offensive charge, scoring multiple goals and inspiring her teammates to dominate play.
She was ably supported by teammates Fatima, Blessing, Florence, Lola, and goalkeeper Elizabeth, whose coordination and teamwork ensured a commanding finish.
Speaking after the game, BUK’s Head Coach, Auwalu Dankano, lauded his players for their strong performance and commended the visiting GGASS team for their determination.
The commanding victory boosts BUK’s confidence as they prepare to represent the university in the NUGA preliminaries, where they aim to secure qualification for the national finals and further solidify their position as one of the top contenders in university handball.
