The Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano BUK, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, commissioned a newly constructed, high-tech Guard House at the Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA), praising the Centre’s visionary approach to security and technological integration.
Designed to enhance both physical and digital security, the Guard House features advanced biometric access systems and 24-hour surveillance capabilities, setting a new standard for institutional security within the university.

During a demonstration of the security system—which includes eye-scan and fingerprint recognition technology—the Vice Chancellor expressed admiration for the Centre’s leadership and commitment to innovation.
“With this installation, the CDA is now the most secure centre on our campus,” Professor Abbas declared. “This level of foresight and execution is a model that should be emulated across the university.”
Welcoming the Vice Chancellor, CDA Director, Professor Jibrin Mohammed Jibrin, emphasized that the new Guard House is a strategic asset, centralizing and modernizing the Centre’s perimeter security. He noted that the facility is fully equipped with cutting-edge surveillance infrastructure, including CCTV cameras, to ensure 24/7 monitoring.

“The Guard House operates independently from the Centre’s main power supply, running on a dedicated 1.5-megawatt system,” Professor Jibrin explained. “It also includes essential amenities like water supply and restrooms to ensure the comfort and efficiency of security personnel.”
The commissioning marks a significant milestone in the Centre’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding research infrastructure and personnel while maintaining an environment conducive to innovation and excellence.
