The vice chancellor Bayero University Kano BUK Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas has reiterated the institute’s commitment to gender sensitivity through policies and the establishment of the Center for gender studies.

Professor Sagir made the indication while declaring open two-day dissemination of gender tool kits to the Center for gender studies BUK.

Represented by the university librarian Dr. Kabiru Dahiru Abbas, he described the Center for gender studies CGS BUK as one of the first in Nigeria Universities.

Professor Sagir emphasized the university’s dedication to supporting gender-sensitive recruitment of students and staff and expressed the institution’s commitment to utilizing the toolkits provided to further gender-sensitive practices.

The Director of, the Centre for Gender Studies BUK Dr. Safiya Ahmed Nuhu pointed out that the objectives and the primary goal of the session were to equip the Centre with the necessary toolkits to enhance their gender mainstreaming efforts.

She pointed out that, the training would focus on two key areas, equitable budgeting gender mainstreaming, and the importance of building leadership and governance skills among the participants.

In his welcome address, The state team lead PERL ARC Malam Auwalu Hamza noted that the Partnership to Engage, Reform, and Learn is an accountability and governance program.

He maintained that the workshop was organized to disseminate various toolkits developed by PERL and to foster partnerships with different organizations.

Highlights of the event include a paper presentation titled An Overview of PERL’s Work Related to Girls Education by Aisha Abubakar, an introduction to the dissemination and use of the tools by Habiba Isiyaku Njidda, gender concepts presentation and discussions by Tilitope Fakoya, gender considerations in policy practice and sensitivity by Gabriel Ojegbile among others.

After the technical session, participants moved to the Resource Centre for the official handover of gender mainstreaming and equitable budgeting toolkits.

The event was organized by the Center for gender studies BUK in collaboration with Partnership to Engage Reform and Learn PERL.
