A Kano-based Chef, chef Oluwa Fumilayo Jacob, has hosted lovers of Amala in the state in an Amala festival with an Intention of strengthening unity among them.

 

The festival which brought people from different sociocultural backgrounds was held at the Kano trade fair ground over the weekend.

 

Speaking during the event, chef Jacob otherwise known as chef Fummy, said Amala has become a common food which is no longer eaten by Yuruba alone, but enjoyed by so many non Yorubas.

 

According to her, the festival was organised in order to bring people together under a big tent to enjoy the Yoruba special delicacy, noting that, food serves as another instrument which unite people together.

 

“We have the Igbos, Hausas and other tribes present to eat this Amala. The message we are preaching is how to live peacefully with one another.

 

“This is the second edition and it has come to stay in Kano. We hope to be moving from one part of the country to the other and to other countries as well in the near future,” she highlighted.

 

In his remarks, the special adviser to the Kano state governor on intercommunity relations (Yoruba community) Alhaji Abdulsalam Abdullateef, said the festival is all encompassing for the unity of Nigeria.

 

He said Amala is a household and staple food which is very healthy, adding that, the event will further strengthened unity in diversity especially among residents of the state.

 

An Amala lover, Ramadan Yusuf, said his presence at the event was to celebrate Amala especially among those who are fond of it.

 

“Everything around here is a vibe of unity because we are here to celebrate one of our cultural food in Nigeria and every food from every part of the country is our heritage and we are so proud of it,” he noted.
