Over 40 educational stakeholders in Kano State have benefited from a two-day training program under the Educational and Youth Empowerment Project (EYE) initiated by UNICEF.
The program, funded by the European Union, aims to enhance school safety and security, addressing the shortcomings in the current system.
According to Ms. Aisha Abdullahi, the state education facilitator of EU EYE, the training is designed for EYE teachers from various local governments and schools, who will then train their colleagues on school safety.
This initiative is crucial, as noted by Mr. Cacsar Akuduke, Executive Director of Talents in Children Promotion, who emphasized that many schools lack safety measures.
Fortunately, Kano State has not experienced severe violence or attacks in schools, but the training provides precautionary measures to ensure the safety of students and teachers.
The Commissioner of Education, Mr. Umar Haruna Doguwa, highlighted the significant impact of UNICEF’s support in improving access to quality education, particularly in underserved communities.
Key Objectives of the Program includes enhancing School Safety, Addressing Infrastructure Challenges, Promote Teacher Training as well as Bridging Gender Disparities.
By addressing these challenges, the program aims to create a brighter future for young learners and contribute to the overall development of the state.
