The Federal Fire Service (FFS) is urging Nigerians to adopt the National Fire Safety Codes, especially when planning, designing, and constructing infrastructure.
This move aims to reduce casualties and property losses during fire incidents.
Engineer Kazeem Sholadoye, FFS Kano commandant, emphasized the importance of fire safety and risk management during the 2nd Kano Fire Summit.
The event, organized by FFS in collaboration with the League for Societal Protection Against Drugs Abuse (LESPADA), aimed to sensitize people about the dangers of uncontrolled fires, especially with the harsh weather conditions.
The summit’s objectives included educating the public on basic fire handling techniques, disaster response simulation, and promoting fire safety awareness among students.
Kazeem also stressed the need for stakeholders to tackle climate change effects, noting that human activities contribute to heat waves and ozone layer damage.
