The Gombe State Government has pledged to declare a one-week break for schools in the state to participate in the 2026 edition of the Inter-secondary Schools Athletics and Principals’ Cup Football Competition.

This assurance was given by the Gombe State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Aisha Umar Maigari, who emphasized that the approval is contingent on the competition not clashing with the school’s academic calendar .
The government’s support for grassroots games and sports programs is aimed at developing talents in the state.
Lack of Transparency Chases Sponsors from Nigerian Sports-Gombe
Dr. Aisha Umar stated that the state government has provided a school as a camp for the teams, as well as a conducive atmosphere for the schools and athletes to compete.
The government has also asked teachers to support and ensure the success of the games.
The 2025 Gombe Inter Secondary Schools Athletics Championship is currently ongoing, with over 1,000 athletes from 73 schools participating.
