The Kano state accountability forum on education K-Safe, with support from FCDO PLANE,, conducted a school enrollment campaign across some selected local governments.
The selected LGAs include Makoda, Minjibir, Warawa, Kabo, Kumbotso, Kibiya, Rimin Gado, Bunkure, and Bebeji.
The school enrollment campaign team visited Rimin Gado’s special primary school with over eight thousand students.
The education secretary, Rimin Gado Alhaji Abdullahi Sabi’u, represented by the head of Personnel Local Education Authority LEA Alhaji Salisu Umar Lambu, received the team in his office.
The team went around the school and interacted with students, where some benefitted from writing kits containing books, pencils, crayons, sharpeners and cleaners.
Some of the students who spoke with the team, Maryam Usman, Aminu Auwal, Musa Saminu and Aisha Abdullahi, expressed happiness over the kind gesture.
Maryam said she wants to be a nurse, Aminu a governor, Musa a soldier while Aisha wish to be a teacher.
They noted that the writing materials will greatly help them in achieving their dreams.
Representative of the education secretary who doubles as head of personnel Rimin Gado LEA SaIiSu Umar Lambu described uniforms, reading and writing materials as major catalysts to the development of education in the state.
He noted that training and retraining of teachers and, the provision of uniforms and learning materials by the Kano state government under the leadership of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has gone a long way in improving enrollment retention and completion.
Salisu explained that relocation, poverty, and illiteracy played a vital role in decreasing the enrollment rate.
He commended the Kano state government and development partners, such as PLANE FCDO, for various interventions in the education sector.
During the visit, the Enrollment campaign team discovered that there are one hundred and sixteen primary schools and over twenty secondary schools in Rimin Gado local government area.
This campaign is part of broader efforts to address challenges in the education sector in Kano state By promoting accountability and transparency, initiatives like K-SAFE can help improve enrollment, retention, and completion rates.
