In a significant move to address the electricity challenges in Kano State, the Kano State House of Assembly, under the leadership of the Speaker Alhaji Jibril Ismail Falgore, has proposed a bill to establish an electricity agency.
The proposed agency aims to provide a comprehensive legal framework for the establishment and operation of electricity markets in Kano State.
According to a statement issued by Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, the spokesperson to the speaker, the bill will adopt an integrated resource planning and policy approach.

This includes recognizing various sources for electricity generation, transmission, and distribution, incorporating renewable energy, to attract investment.
The major objectives outlined in the proposed bill are
1. To establish an ideal legal and institutional framework that builds on the modest gains of privatization.
2. To introduce an electricity regulatory system to oversee electricity operations in Kano State.
3. To create electricity markets for Kano State.
The electricity bill is currently undergoing legislative scrutiny by the members of the Kano State House of Assembly.
