Stakeholders in Kano State’s education sector recently gathered for a two-day capacity-building workshop focused on monitoring school enrollment and preventing dropouts, supported by Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE).
The workshop aimed to identify and address challenges hindering education in various local government areas, including Rimin Gado, Warawa, Makoda, Kibiya, Minjibir, Kabo, Kumbotso, Bunkure, and Bebeji.
The teams identified issues such as poverty, insecurity, migration, distance, lack of proper records, inadequate community participation and support as some of the major hindrance to school enrollment.
The Campaign teams explained that they interacted with parents, students, and stakeholders to understand specific problems affecting enrollment, retention, and completion of education.
The training was praised by chairmen of the based management committees, who urged participants to share their knowledge to achieve desired outcomes.
In their goodwill messages, the chairman of the based management committee SBMC Kano Alhaji Tijjani Haladu Baraya, the chairman of Kano State Accountability Forum on Education K-Safe Dr Auwal Halilu and the chairman of the based Management Committee CBMC described the training as apt.
They highlighted that the training served as an eye opener and urged participants to share their knowledge to achieve desired outcomes.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the state team lead partnership for learning for all in Nigeria PLANE Kano, Malam Umar pointed out that the capacity building was organized to bring stakeholders to proffer lasting solutions to problems bedevilling the education sector.
He urged participants to make judicious use of the knowledge gained.
The workshop featured presentations, group work, and discussions, with PLANE’s state reform facilitator, Malam Abdurrahman Abdu, highlighting the importance of finding lasting solutions to education sector problems ¹. This initiative is part of PLANE’s efforts to improve education in Kano State, following their launch of Community Learning Hubs in July 2023, which aimed to foster inclusive education
