The Kano State Assembly has rejected the tax reform bills currently being considered by the National Assembly.
This decision was taken after deliberations on the house floor, led by Speaker Hon. Ismail Falgore.
The Majority Leader, Lawan Husseini, expressed concerns that the bill would harm the northern region’s economy and increase hardship.
He argued that the proposed VAT allocation would unfairly favor states like Lagos, where many major corporations are headquartered.
Hon. Husseini warned that this could weaken some northern states, making it difficult for them to pay salaries and increasing poverty.
Other lawmakers, including Hon. Salisu Mohammed and Hon. Murtala Kadage, supported the motion, urging northern lawmakers to unite against the bill.
The Kano State Assembly urged northern senators, representatives, and conference speakers to prevent the bill’s passage.
