Kano state government KNSG says it has provided 6,000 free delivery kits to pregnant women monthly across government facilities.

The state commissioner for health Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf made the indication during an inspection visit to Hasiya Bayero paediatric hospital Murtala Muhammad specialist hospital and Nuhu Bamalli maternity hospital, as part of activities to celebrate the present administration under Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf one year in office.

According to him, the free delivery packs contains sanitary pads, surgical gloves, disinfectant, clamp and other relevant items.

He stressed that the state also provided the necessary drugs and consumables for free cesarean surgery to 500 women as part of commitments in promoting maternal health.

Dr. Abubakar pointed out that Hasiya Bayero paediatric hospital was rehabilitated, re-equipped and re-furnished in addition to the accident and emergency section of Murtala Muhammad specialist hospital.

The commissioner highlighted that Muhammad Abdullahi Wase and Yadakunya Leprosy Hospital had also undergone repairs.

He explained that, the government has recruited 36 House Officers and 70 Medical Officers to serve at various health facilities in the state.

“Redeployment of the newly employed medical doctors to serve at both the primary and secondary health facilities in the state”

Dr. Abubakar noted that, health laboratories were -revitalized through purchase of laboratory equipment’s, reagents, rehabilitation work and capacity building of the staff.

He maintained that, as part of efforts to ensure quality healthcare delivery, the state ministry of health visited drug manufacturing companies in Lagos to procure drugs without middlemen to reduce the high cost of drugs and consumables.

“Kano state government, in collaboration with UNICEF, has procured anti-malaria drugs for children six months to five years.

The commissioner was accompanied by the executive Secretary of Kano State Hospitals management board Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda and other management staff of the ministry.
