The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, has welcomed the Appeal Court’s judgment in favor of Emir Sanusi, describing it as a triumph of justice on the Kano throne.

According to a statement issued by Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, spokesperson for the Speaker, the Appeal Court’s decision has brought an end to a long-standing legal dispute aimed at creating discord and undermining the prestige of the Kano Emirate.

The judgment, which struck out the fundamental human rights case filed by Alh. Aminu Ado Bayero, reaffirmed the jurisdiction of laws governing the Kano State Emirate Council. This grants the council full autonomy to handle issues related to Chieftaincy Affairs.

The Speaker expressed his satisfaction with the judgment, stating that it demonstrates the commitment of the judiciary to upholding justice for all.

He also noted that the ruling reaffirms the rule of law in Kano State and ensures the stability of the Kano Emirate.

The case has been remanded back to the Chief Judge of the Kano State High Court for hearing and final judgment.

The development comes after the Kano State House of Assembly repealed the Kano State Emirate Council Law 2024 on May 23, 2024, which was subsequently assented to by the State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.
