The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Kano State has received a staggering 954 complaints of alleged human rights abuses from April to date.

This information was shared by Alhaji Shehu Abdullahi, the NHRC State Coordinator, in an interview with newsmen in Kano.

Women and Children: 602 cases, highlighting the vulnerability of these cases .

Breach of Trust: 125 cases, indicating issues with trust in various relationships.

Spousal Responsibilities: 80 cases, pointing to marital challenges.

Abandonment and Domestic Violence: 50 cases, underscoring the need for support in family matters.

Labour, Land, and Economic Rights: 62 cases, showing conflicts in employment and property.

Labour Matters: 35 cases, primarily involving employer-employee disputes.

Of these complaints, 776 have been addressed, while 178 are still pending. The NHRC has also mediated in marital disputes, encouraging couples to practice patience and cooperation.

This update follows a previous report of 52 complaints in April in Kano.

For more information on human rights violations, the NHRC received 1,147 complaints nationwide in January 2024, with the North-central region topping the list.
