The Nigerian School Sports Federation (NSSF) has postponed the national Under-15 School tournament, which was initially scheduled to take place from October 24 to November 1.
The new dates for the tournament are November 6-15, and it will be held in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.
According to Oba Funsho Usman, the Secretary-General of NSSF, the postponement was necessary to ensure the success of the championship.
He apologized for any inconvenience caused and assured that the federation is working hard to organize a befitting youth championship.
The Kano state team, comprising students from Government College Kano, has appreciated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his moral and financial support.
Despite receiving the news of the postponement late, the team is determined to make Kano proud.
The director of sports in the state ministry of education, Malam Ibrahim Bello, encouraged the students to cooperate with their coaches to achieve their objectives.
The director then commended the commissioner of education, Alhaji Haruna Umar Doguwa and the management staff of the ministry for their unflinching support of the team.
Some of the students who spoke with newsmen assured that they would do their best to sustain the higher profile of Kano state as far as sporting competition is concerned within and outside the country.
The NSSF aims to promote and develop sports activities among students in Nigeria, focusing on physical fitness, character development, and sportsmanship.
