The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has officially concluded the local government elections by presenting certificates of return to the 44 newly elected chairmen.
This milestone was achieved after a free, fair, and credible electoral process, as acknowledged by KANSIEC Chairman, Prof. Sani Malumfashi.
Malumfashi expressed gratitude to key stakeholders, including security agencies, media, traditional, and religious leaders, for their Invaluable support throughout the election preparation and certificate issuance.
He emphasized that KANSIEC provided a neutral platform for the elections, ensuring their integrity.
Some of the elected chairpersons have already begun outlining their priorities. Sa’adatu Yushau Tudunwada, Chairperson of Tudunwada Local Government, promised equitable treatment to all constituents, regardless of party affiliation.
Similarly, Salisu Masu, Chairman of Fagge Local Government, highlighted concerns about revenue shortages due to leakages and vowed to address these issues. His goals include improving internal revenue generation.
The elections were initially scheduled for November 30 but were rescheduled to October 26, 2024, following a Supreme Court ruling affirming local government autonomy.
