In recognition of World Menstrual Hygiene Day, the Kano State-led Accountability Mechanism (KanSLAM) is proud to join the global community in highlighting the critical importance of menstrual hygiene management (MHM) for all women and girls.
This year’s theme, “Making Menstruation a Normal Fact of Life by 2030,” resonates deeply with our mission to ensure equitable and dignified menstrual health for everyone in Kano State.
World Menstrual Hygiene Day, observed annually on May 28th, serves as a crucial reminder of the ongoing challenges and stigmas associated with menstruation.
In Kano State, many girls and women face significant barriers to managing their menstruation effectively, which affects their health, education, and overall well-being.
KanSLAM is dedicated to holding the government and stakeholders accountable for their commitments to menstrual health. We are tracking the implementation of policies and programs to ensure they meet the needs of our communities.
We are working closely with community leaders, parents, and educators to foster open dialogues about menstrual health, aiming to break taboos and promote a supportive environment for girls and women.
In partnership with NGOs and private sector entities, we are advocating for the provision of affordable and accessible menstrual hygiene products. Our goal is to reduce the economic barriers that prevent girls from managing their periods safely.
KanSLAM calls on all stakeholders to prioritize menstrual hygiene management and support our initiatives through active participation, funding, and policy advocacy. Let us work together to create a Kano State where menstruation is no longer a barrier to health, education, and equality.
The Kano State-led Accountability Mechanism is dedicated to promoting transparency, accountability, and equitable access to essential health services.
Through rigorous monitoring and advocacy, KSLAM works to ensure that all residents of Kano State receive the quality care and support they deserve.
