The Kano State House of Assembly’s Standing Committee on Environment has taken a bold step in addressing the state’s waste disposal challenges.
During an oversight visit to the Refuse and Sanitation Management Board (REMASAB), the committee expressed disappointment with the level of abandoned trucks and equipment, hindering effective waste management.
Chairman of the committee, tasked REMASAB to double its efforts in curbing waste disposal failures, emphasizing the need for capacity building, equipment, and funding to address environmental health concerns.
The committeee also advised REMASAB to establish zonal offices across the state, enabling them to reach out to community areas and tackle the heavy load of refuse.
In a related development, the committee visited the West African Climate Change and Adaptation (WECCMA) and Accresal Agency, commending their achievements in addressing climate change and erosion control in the state.
The agencies assured the committee of their commitment to improving their tasks, following the oversight visit.
The entourage included members representing Ungogo, Albasu, and Doguwa constituencies, among others.
This move by the Kano State House of Assembly demonstrates a renewed commitment to addressing environmental challenges and ensuring a cleaner, healthier environment for citizens.
