The Kano State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, in collaboration with AMG Foundation, has taken a bold step towards strengthening humanitarian response and disaster management in the state with the unveiling of the draft framework for the proposed Kano State Humanitarian Interventions Trust Fund.
The initiative was the focus of a one-day technical workshop held at the ministry’s conference hall, facilitated by Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, Technical Adviser to the Ministry who doubles as Chairman AMG Foundation.

In his remarks, Dr. Magashi outlined the workshop’s objectives, stressing the urgent need for a sustainable financing mechanism for humanitarian interventions in the state.
He revealed that initial resources for the fund had already been captured in the ministry’s 2025 approved budget.
Declaring the workshop open, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Alhaji Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, commended Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf for establishing the ministry as part of his administration’s people-centered reforms.

He further acknowledged Dr. Magashi’s pivotal role in shaping the ministry’s technical direction.
“Today, we gather to take a significant step towards developing the Humanitarian Interventions Trust Fund, which will drive innovative partnerships and financing for humanitarian response, disaster management, and rapid response mechanisms,”
The technical session featured a presentation of the draft framework by Dr. Magashi, covering key areas such as the governance structure, operational focus areas, funding sources, and disbursement modalities.
Participants drawn from the Ministry, relevant government agencies, and development partners were grouped into four clusters to review each component of the framework.
The breakout sessions produced actionable recommendations and innovative ideas, which now form the foundation for the fund’s operational roadmap.
At the end of the workshop, stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to fast-tracking the establishment of the Kano State Humanitarian Interventions Trust Fund, aimed at mobilizing resources, building resilience, and ensuring timely support for vulnerable populations in times of need.
