The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has disclosed that Nigeria’s national electricity grid will continue to be vulnerable to collapse due to the government’s inability to repair a critical transmission line in the northern region.

The Shiroro-Kaduna-Mando line has been out of service since October 2024, when it was vandalized.
According to Adelabu, the government’s efforts to repair the line have been hindered by persistent insecurity issues in the region.

As a result, the national grid has been relying on a single line, causing unnecessary strain and increasing the likelihood of collapse.
The Minister revealed this information during the 2025 budget defense session with the Senate Joint Committee on Power.
He emphasized that the frequent collapse of the national grid has resulted in significant economic losses and social impacts.

To address this issue, Adelabu stated that the government can only work on quicker restoration of power when the grid collapses.
However, he acknowledged that a more comprehensive approach is needed to repair and upgrade the national grid infrastructure.
