Participants of Course 34 of the National Defence College (NDC) have reaffirmed their commitment to submitting key strategic recommendations on national security, agriculture, and natural resource management following their study tour of Kebbi State.
The team leader, Commodore A.A. Abu, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Gwandu, Major General Muhammad Iliyasu Bashar (Rtd), at his palace in Birnin Kebbi.
Commodore Abu stated that the National Defence College continues to nurture future strategic leaders equipped with the analytical skills and knowledge required to respond to Nigeria’s evolving defence and security challenges.
Since its establishment in 1992, the college has produced high-ranking graduates from the armed forces, police, and key government institutions, including international participants. Two of the current cohort are from Tanzania and Gabon.
He explained that the visit was aimed at seeking guidance, wisdom, and professional counsel from the Emir, a retired senior military officer whose insights would be valuable as the team finalises its recommendations.
In his remarks, the Emir urged the participants to remain inquisitive, innovative, and patriotic in their service to the nation.
He emphasised the collective responsibility of ensuring inclusive governance, strengthening productivity, and securing a future for the coming generations.
The Emir further advised them to uphold good family values, train their children morally, develop the economy, promote industrial growth, and protect Nigeria’s sovereignty.
Commodore Abu also commended Governor Nasir Idris for his administration’s transformation of Kebbi State into a major hub for rice, onions, and other exportable cash crops.
The five-day study tour saw the participants engaging with government institutions and key stakeholders across the state. They also paid a courtesy visit to Governor Idris and are expected to conclude the tour on Saturday.
