The Nigerian Red Cross Society has launched a large-scale relief effort in Jigawa State, providing support to 5,000 victims of the 2024 flood disaster across Auyo, Malam Madori, and Kirikasamma Local Government Areas.
Flagging off the cash distribution in Auyo Local Government, the National President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Oluyemisi Adeaga, announced that the organization would distribute a total of N304 million to affected families.

According to Adeaga, 3,000 families will receive N150 million in agricultural assistance to boost their farm yields, while another 2,000 families will benefit from N154 million in direct cash assistance.
Beyond financial aid, Adeaga emphasized the Red Cross’s commitment to restoring dignity and supporting the most vulnerable members of society. “We are not just distributing aid; we are distributing dignity,” he stated.

He further noted that the relief initiative specifically targets widows, persons with disabilities, child-headed households, pregnant women, and displaced families, ensuring that the most at-risk individuals receive the necessary support.
Representing Governor Umar Namadi at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Special Duties, Alhaji Muhammad Bello, commended the Nigerian Red Cross for its humanitarian efforts In the state.
Similarly, Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Yusuf Sununu, represented by his Special Assistant, Mr Atiku Muhammad, applauded the initiative.
He stressed the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing humanitarian challenges and supporting disaster-affected communities.
The minister said the intervention by the Nigerian Red Cross Society is expected to provide much-needed relief to families struggling to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the devastating floods.
