In collaboration with NAFDAC and SON, the agency conducted a sensitization exercise across three major markets in Kano state: Yan lemon fruits market, Yankaba vegetables market, and Dawanau International grains market.
Rabiu Ado, the Acting State Director of NOA, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that the federal government is committed to promoting a healthy food and society.

Danladi Abba, the Deputy Director of NAFDAC in Kano state, identified calcium carbide, a chemical meant for welding and car panel beating, as being used in fruit markets for ripening.

He also mentioned that some marketers use sniper for preserving grains.
Abba warned that these chemicals are dangerous for human consumption and can cause illnesses such as cancer, kidney failure, and high blood pressure.
