The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, says over 32,000 paramilitary officers were promoted in 2023, clearing a backlog of promotions inherited from the previous administration.

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made this known during the passing out parade of 714 cadets of the 49th Superintendent Basic Course at the Immigration Training School in Kano.

He emphasized the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s government to prioritizing the welfare of officers, ensuring they no longer wait for extended periods without promotions.

The Minister noted that the 2024 promotion exercise is almost complete, demonstrating the government’s dedication to recognizing officers’ hard work and sacrifices.

Tunji-Ojo urged the cadets to embody the values of sacrifice, patriotism, courage, and selflessness, and to build a career that inspires and performs the mandate of the service.

The Controller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, also addressed the Graduants, warning them against involvement in politics and emphasizing the importance of diligence, professionalism, and upholding the service’s values.

She highlighted the Service’s efforts towards implementing the E-border project, E-gates, and advanced passenger information systems to enhance border control and surveillance.

The Commandant of the training school, Hussaini Ibrahim, expressed gratitude to the service leadership for providing resources for officer training.
