The leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Jigawa State and its 2023 governorship candidate, Malam Aminu Ibrahim Ringim, has dismissed claims that key members of the party defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the reports as false and misleading.
His response follows media reports that the lawmaker representing Gwaram Federal Constituency, Hon. Yusuf Shitu Galambi, along with Musa Majia and Aminu Jahun, had dumped the NNPP for the APC.

Ringim insisted that those mentioned were never genuine members of the NNPP. “All the so-called defectors were originally APC members who only joined us temporarily.
Galambi was denied the APC ticket and we offered him a platform to contest, which enabled his victory.
Aminu Jahun was expelled from the PDP, and although we accommodated him, we knew he maintained close ties with the APC and leaked our internal discussions,” he said.
He added that Musa Majia had never been an active participant in NNPP affairs. “Majia was never part of our activities nor did he contribute to the growth of the party in any meaningful way,” Ringim stated.
Ringim emphasized that, based on these facts, the Jigawa NNPP does not regard the individuals as authentic members of the party. “No single genuine NNPP member has defected to the APC in Jigawa State,” he asserted.

He reaffirmed the NNPP’s resolve to strengthen itself as a credible political alternative rooted in good governance and people-oriented leadership. Ringim urged party members to remain united and focused on upholding the ideals of the movement.
The NNPP leader further advised the Jigawa State Government to prioritize meaningful development projects rather than circulating misleading narratives about opposition defections.
It would be recalled that the APC recently claimed it had received over 66,000 defectors from various political parties into its fold in the state.
