Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajuddeen Abbas, has led a delegation of the National Assembly to Kebbi State to commiserate with the government and people of the state over the recent abduction of 25 schoolgirls and the killing of two persons.
During a condolence visit to Government House, Birnin Kebbi, the Speaker announced a donation of ₦30 million to the families of the deceased school officials.
According to him, ₦20 million is to be given to the family of the late Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, while ₦10 million goes to the family of the slain gateman.
The Speaker also appealed to Governor Nasir Idris to rename the school in honour of the late Vice Principal, describing him as a selfless and dedicated educator who sacrificed his life in the process of safeguarding the schoolgirls.
Abbas said the death of the Vice Principal was a monumental loss to the community, the state, and the nation, noting that the deceased was widely admired for his honesty, patience, and hard work.
Responding, Governor Nasir Idris thanked the Speaker and members of the House for identifying with the state during its moment of grief and for supporting the affected families.
He assured that his administration would continue to work closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure the safe return of the abducted students, adding that the heroic sacrifice of the late principal would forever be remembered.
