Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation MESA, in collaboration with other security agencies, have repelled a bandits’ attack in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.
The operation, led by the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, followed a tip-off about the movement of bandits around Ungwan Tudu, Ungwan Tsamiya, and Goron Dutse communities at about 5 p.m. on Saturday.
According to military sources, the troops engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel, killing 19 of them and recovering several motorcycles and two mobile phones.
The Army disclosed that the bandits, who stormed the area on motorcycles, were forced to retreat after suffering heavy casualties. Unfortunately, two soldiers and one local vigilante lost their lives during the encounter.
The Commander, 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General Ahmed Tukur, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents of sustained collaboration with sister security agencies to ensure lasting peace in the area.
