The Women Farmers Advancement Network (WOFAN) has launched an incredible initiative to empower people living with disabilities (PWDs) in Kano State’s Garun Mallam Local Government Area.

WOFAN distributed multipurpose cooperative grants to 180 PWDs, with each recipient receiving N20,000 to support and grow their businesses.

The initiative is part of the WOFAN-ICON-2 Project, implemented in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation’s “We Can Work” program”

The Country Director, Dr. Salamatu Garba, represented by Sadik Hassan Zakariyya highlighted the success of their previous year’s intervention, which enabled beneficiaries to expand their ventures, improve their livelihoods, and contribute more towards their businesses.

Dr. Salamatu maintained that, WOFAN also supported six clusters of PWDs, providing counterpart funding of N1,216,000 to boost their businesses.

“Beneficiaries contributed N6,000 this year, twice the amount of the previous year, with WOFAN matching it with even greater support”

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to newsmen Hauwa’u Aliyu Salisu, shared her success story of starting a food business with a previous grant of N10,000.

She now employs three people and generates a daily income of N3,000. Another beneficiary, Sa’adu Ahmadu, described WOFAN’s intervention as life-changing.

This initiative is a shining example of promoting financial inclusion and sustainable economic growth, empowering PWDs to contribute to their communities and participate in financial systems
