According to him, the violence stemmed from a misunderstanding among miners, which led to loss of lives and destruction of property.
Eyewitnesses reported that the crisis began on Saturday when a group of miners allegedly killed an individual. In retaliation, the victim’s relatives launched an attack on the miners the following day.
The confrontation quickly spiraled out of control as the miners reportedly went on a rampage, vandalizing shops and setting motorcycles ablaze.
Shuaibu further explained that he tried to contact the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) but could not reach him, possibly because he was in a meeting. He added that he had sought military support to restore order.
The council boss noted that the situation worsened after his vice chairman, who had attended the burial of the slain victim, returned with reports that miners were attacking residents within the town.
