The Gauta Club, a coalition of political commentators in Kano State, has publicly endorsed the state’s recent ban on live political programs, citing concerns over inflammatory rhetoric and threats to public peace.
Speaking to journalists in Kano on Monday, the club’s chairman, Hamisu Danwawu Fagge, stated that the move was in line with the group’s founding aim of promoting responsible political discourse.

“We support the ban on live political programs in Kano. Let them be censored before going on air,” he said.
Fagge claimed that many Kano residents welcomed the measure as a way to restore civility and curb the use of vulgar language in political broadcasts.
He stressed the group’s support for banning direct live interviews with politicians and announced plans to introduce internal screening for Gauta Club members appearing on air.
He also revealed the club’s intention to engage with the National Broadcasting Commission and local radio stations to support the enforcement of the policy.
