The Assembly clarified thatthe Majority Leader,Alhaji Lawan Hussaini Dala has not granted any interviews or made public statements regarding the commencement of any investigation against the ALGON Chairperson.
“Hon. Dala, like every elected member, is empowered by the Constitution to receive petitions from constituents. Receiving a petition does not imply endorsement of its content or an official legislative action,” the statement read.
The Assembly further warned that reports being circulated, especially those from unofficial sources, were a misrepresentation of legislative procedures and appeared to be a deliberate attempt to damage the integrity of both the Majority Leader and the institution.
Emphasizing its commitment to due process, the Assembly reminded the public that no investigation can proceed without following established rules, including giving fair hearing to all parties involved.
The legislature also asserted its right to receive and act on petitions in a manner consistent with the law and transparency.
It condemned the propagation of baseless accusations without evidence or confirmation from any official Assembly source.
The statement concluded with a warning to the media outlets and individuals behind the false publication:
“We demand an unreserved apology and a full withdrawal of the fabricated story within seven (7) days. Failure to comply may result in legal action for malicious publication and deliberate public misinformation.”
