The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kano State Chapter, has restated its commitment to promoting women’s inclusion in decision-making as a key driver of societal transformation.
Speaking during a one-day capacity-building workshop at the NUJ Press Centre in Kano, NAWOJ Chairperson, Comrade Bahijja Kabara, stressed that women must have the opportunity to contribute to policies and initiatives that foster progress.

The workshop, organised in partnership with the Aminu Magashi Foundation and the Community Health and Research Initiative, sought to strengthen the capacity of women journalists in objective and timely reporting while tackling professional challenges at both local and global levels.
Kabara urged participants to put the knowledge gained into practice to advance the profession and promote women’s rights.

She commended the Aminu Magashi Foundation for its steadfast support for maternal and child health, community welfare, and women’s empowerment, describing it as a “reliable partner in building healthier and more inclusive communities.”
She also praised the NUJ Kano Council Chairman, Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, for his progressive leadership, and lauded Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritising women’s development, especially through the Maternal and Child Health Care Law and the provision of free medical services for pregnant women.

Resource persons at the event, including Comrade Uba Abdullahi, Malam Lawan Isah Bagwai, and veteran journalist Hajiya Salma Yusuf, delivered lectures on ethical journalism, credible news sourcing, and women’s involvement in governance.
The workshop concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, ensuring participants had a firm grasp of the key lessons discussed.
