The Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation (AMG Foundation), in collaboration with the Kano State Healthcare Forum, has launched a one-year intervention to strengthen emergency and accident services at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital (MMSH), Kano.

The initiative, flagged off at the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department of the hospital, will provide N2.4 million worth of drugs and consumables over the next 12 months.

Speaking at the event,Chairman of the AMG Foundation, Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, explained that the intervention was necessitated by the rising demand for emergency medical supplies due to the surge in patient turnout, particularly from insecurity-related incidents.

“This donation is not a one-time gesture; it will continue for 12 months, and we may extend it to cover the maternity department,” Dr. Magashi said.

Under the arrangement, AMG Foundation will release N200,000 monthly for the purchase of essential drugs and consumables through the hospital’s Drug Revolving Fund (DRF), a system designed to sustain hospital revenue while ensuring consistent medical supply.

Dr. Muhammad commended the foundation’s support, emphasizing the importance of transparency.

He pointed out that the A&E department would maintain a utilization register to ensure accountability in the use of the donated items.

Matron of the A&E Department, Madam Hassana expressed gratitude on behalf of the staff, pledging judicious use of the supplies to cater to the needs of vulnerable patients.

For the month of August, the donated items included: examination gloves, crepe bandages, cotton bandages, intravenous fluids, syringes, cannulas, infusion sets, cotton wool, and injectable paracetamol.

The gesture reflects AMG Foundation’s broader humanitarian mission to strengthen healthcare delivery and support government efforts in improving emergency response services across Kano State.
