Journalists have been urged to deepen their commitment to fact-verification and adopt emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to improve the accuracy and quality of news content.
Professor Rukayya Aliyu of the Department of Mass Communication, Bayero University Kano, during a one-day capacity-building workshop for members of the Kano Online Chapel, stressed that journalists must ensure the credibility of sources and uphold ethical standards.

She noted that objectivity remains the backbone of professional news reporting.
She added that with the world now operating as a global village, media practitioners must take advantage of AI tools to enhance information gathering and dissemination in line with global best practices.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Kano Online Chapel, Comrade Abubakar Abdulqadir DanGambo, said the training was organized to equip members with modern skills required for truthful, factual, and responsible reporting.
He also emphasized the difference between online journalism and social media content creation, calling for higher professionalism within the digital news space.

Also speaking, the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuous training and retraining of journalists.
He further pledged to convey a request to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the provision of a bus to support the chapel’s operations.
