Teachers across Kaduna State have been encouraged to adopt modern, technology-driven teaching approaches as the state commences a large-scale digital training programme targeting more than 10,000 educators.
The call was made by the Director of Initiatives and Logistics at One Million Teachers, Mr. Babatunde Openibo, during a digital capacity-building workshop held in Kaduna. He explained that the initiative is designed to equip teachers with essential 21st-century competencies, including classroom management, student engagement, mentorship, and strategies for supporting slow learners—steps he described as crucial to making Kaduna a hub of educational excellence.
The President of One Million Teachers, Halima Sani Sada, noted that the programme operates as a lifelong learning system intended to help teachers continually upgrade their skills and mentor colleagues across the state.
Representing the Kaduna State Ministry of Education, the Principal of Alhuda-Huda College Zaria, Malam Abdulrahman Yelwa, reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing teacher performance. He stated that the initiative will contribute to producing students capable of competing both locally and globally. Yelwa urged teachers to take full advantage of the programme, reminding them that “today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders.”
Also speaking, the Principal Education Officer, Public Schools Department, Hajiya Hadiza Usman Abdullahi, described the workshop as timely and impactful, adding that participants are expected to cascade the knowledge gained to thousands of teachers across the state.
Some participating teachers expressed readiness to apply the newly acquired skills to improve teaching and learning in their schools. Participants were drawn from all secondary schools in Zone One of Kaduna State.
The programme aims to transform teaching and learning by empowering teachers with digital tools accessible anytime and anywhere through their mobile phones. It is supported by HP, Girl Rising, the Canadian Government, Cardinal Electricity Transmission, and Dignity Finance.
