The Kano State Government KNSG has reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Government of the Republic of Korea on advancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) through the Better Education for Africa’s Rise (BEAR III) Project.
The State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, gave the assurance during a meeting with the project’s technical team in his office.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammed, Dr. Makoda noted that the BEAR III objectives align with the current administration’s policy of equipping youth with practical, market-relevant skills that drive innovation, self-reliance, and job creation.
He disclosed that the meeting was designed to examine reports on crop value chains and institutional capacity assessment, which would further position Kano to maximize the benefits of the project.

He emphasized that the support from UNESCO and the Government of Korea demonstrates a strong commitment to strengthening TVET in Kano, thereby boosting economic activities and creating sustainable opportunities for young people.
“Kano State Government is therefore ready to work with this project under UNESCO and the Republic of Korea to enhance technical and vocational training, especially among students of our technical colleges,”
Presenting the project overview, the Regional Coordinator of BEAR III, Mr. Manish Joshi, explained that the overall objective of the initiative is to equip young people with technical and generic skills to access decent employment opportunities through a strengthened TVET system.
He highlighted key updates, including the completion of needs assessments for all technical colleges, the hosting of seminars on improving work-based learning and apprenticeship in agriculture and technology, and a strategic roundtable on career guidance and counseling.
In her remarks, the Director of Technology and Science Education, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Olodo M.A, stressed that the meeting was not only about reviewing reports but also aligning the efforts of the technical team towards creating resolutions that would transform agriculture, strengthen skills, and expand opportunities for young people.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Professor Idris M. Bugaje, represented by Prof. Diyauddeen Basheer Hasan, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to developing the capacity of TVET beneficiaries.
